Self-employed photographer  |  Cornwall, Ontario and Chase Mills, New York  |  2010-present

I fell in love with photography during photojournalism training in college, and have been offering my skills on a casual basis to capture significant life events for friends, family and other clients. I have provided photography services for more than half a dozen weddings, and also done maternity, newborn, engagement and family portrait shoots.

Multimedia journalist, Cornwall Standard-Freeholder  |  Cornwall, Ontario  |  2011-2013

As the chief civic affairs reporter for Cornwall’s premier local newspaper, I was responsible for covering city hall council and committee meetings, budget negotiations, community events and protests and a wide variety of municipal issues. In this capacity, I developed close professional relationships with both politicians and staff, as well as key community leaders, to ensure access to the best information and commentary.

My duties at the daily newspaper also included a weekly arts column, capturing photos to accompany articles and uploading fresh content to our website, including stories, images, videos and polls. I also managed the Standard-Freeholder’s social media presence through Facebook and Twitter by providing breaking news and communicating with readers, and also used tools such as ScribbleLive to provide live feeds of significant events.

English Professor, Colegio Ekklesia  |  Cali, Colombia  |   2009-2010

I was challenged with developing lesson plans and curriculum for instructing Spanish-speaking students from grades six to eleven at a private school in South America. The lessons ranged from basic English phrases to more complex verb tenses, sentence structure and advanced conversational usage. I developed games and other activities to contribute to the learning environment, but also administered and graded quizzes, exams and writing assignments.

As a general assignment reporter for this collection of weekly newspapers, I covered a wide range of issues throughout the capital region. My articles and photos were published in the Stittsville News, the Kanata Kourier-Standard, and Nepean This Week. I covered local fundraisers and events, municipal politics including Ottawa city council meetings, and various other community issues.

I was also responsible for managing and editing community submissions and weekly page design of the Kanata Kourier-Standard.

Journalist, The Hub  |  Hay River, Northwest Territories  |  2007

A six-week internship became a three-month job while reporting for a weekly newspaper in the Northwest Territories. I was tasked with writing about a wide range of events and issues in the community, which includes the territory’s only First Nations reserve. While covering an annual festival, I captured a dog sled race in a photo that earned an Alberta Community Newspaper Association award.

Editor, Algonquin Times  |  Ottawa, Ontario |  2006-2007

I was tasked with leading my fellow students to complete our college newspaper during the third semester of our two-year program. I was responsible for managing a team of section editors to assign and edit hard-hitting campus news stories, features and college sports coverage for the award-winning weekly publication. I was also tasked with slotting the stories and designing a front page to best engage our readers.
